This summer, one of Talbot County’s most beloved small businesses is celebrating two decades of sweet success.

Scottish Highland Creamery, the award-winning artisanal ice cream shop nestled in the heart of Oxford, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a community ice cream social on Sunday, June 22. The celebration will take place from noon to 3 p.m. in Oxford Town Park, just across the street from the Creamery’s Mews location at 103 S. Morris Street.
Activities include sundae-eating contests for both kids and adults, a tie-dyed T-shirt station, lawn games, face painting, and a live DJ. In addition to the fun of the party, the creamery will be serving special anniversary-inspired flavors at the store.
“This 20th anniversary milestone is about more than just ice cream — it’s about community,” say owners Richard and Christine Leggett, who purchased the Creamery in 2018. “We’re incredibly grateful to our loyal customers and neighbors who have supported us over the years. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone who helped make the last 20 years so memorable and special.”

Scottish Highland Creamery was founded in 2005 by Victor and Susan Barlow, who moved to the Eastern Shore from Scotland and brought with them a deep appreciation for quality ingredients and traditional ice cream-making techniques. Victor, originally from Edinburgh, trained in Italy before opening the shop in Oxford, creating unique flavors and cultivating a loyal following that turned the creamery into a local institution.
Today, the Scottish Highland Creamery remains a shining example of entrepreneurship and hospitality on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Under the Leggetts’ ownership, the creamery has honored the Barlows’ legacy of excellence while expanding operations to include the Mews production facility and increased seasonal offerings. During its annual “Creamery Gives Back” days, the couple also donates a portion of each day’s proceeds to support local charities.
“Scottish Highland Creamery is not just a place to get a cone. It’s a landmark of joy, quality, and community,” says Cassandra Vanhooser, director of the Talbot County Department of Economic Development and Tourism. “For 20 years, the creamery has drawn people to Oxford and brought smiles to faces of all ages. We are proud to celebrate this important milestone with them.”
The community ice cream social is free and open to the public, with ice cream available for purchase at the shop. Attendees are encouraged to bring family and friends and enjoy an afternoon of old-fashioned fun, delicious ice cream, and community connection.
